The secondary market for investment grade wines is largely points driven. The higher the score awarded by a respected critic, the greater the demand. Generally, it is the wines with strongest demand that have the potential to achieve the highest prices.

It has become common-place for the big chateaux in Bordeaux to await Robert Parker’s initial tasting and subsequent score on new en-primeur, (in barrel), vintages before determining what price it will be released at.
